Should Commons contain unsourced data? Sinigh (talk) 21:12, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to have the files deleted, you need to make a deletion request on the individual files. If you need more info on the files, you might want to contact the uploader first. Enhancing999 (talk) 08:46, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Enhancing999: First I need to know if this type of unsourced data is allowed here or not. If it is, then there is no need for deletion requests, and if it's not, then I assume the files should be speedily deleted? I understand that unsourced data must be permissible at least to a certain extent, so as to allow for e.g. illustrations of already supported claims. But that isn't the case here.
Maybe I shouldn't have started a category discussion, but it seemed like an efficient way to point out several examples at once. I definitely should have notified the uploader immediately, though; I did that just now. Sinigh (talk) 11:10, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikidata is to host data. Commons primarily host media files, not data. The category includes only media files, i.e. graphics. If you wish a general discussion about "data" at Commons, you might want to try COM:VP. Enhancing999 (talk) 11:20, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved

See Commons:Village_pump#Unsourced data on Commons? (17 July 2024) and {{Datasource missing}}. Sinigh (talk) 16:00, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The source for all of these may be "Dati statistici sui matrimoni religiosi e civili in Italia" at it:Matrimonio_(ordinamento_italiano) (where one of the files is used, as you noted elsewhere), possibly including San Marino from the table just below. Itwiki also provides references for the data on the same page. Enhancing999 (talk) 10:12, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
