Permission (Reusing this file) |
Note that a photograph was presumably an intermediary in the 1950 publication of the drawing. Such a photograph could qualify under Icelandic law for a 50 year neighboring rights protection which has now expired. Note that prior to 2006 the period was 25 years. The 1950 book was published without a copyright notice. Since the work was in the public domain in Iceland in 1996 the implementation of the URAA would not have restored copyright in it in the United States. (And in the U.S., the photo as well as the reproduction would be ineligible to copyright anyway as per the Bridgeman v. Corel ruling, and since an engraving made from Sigurður's original was published as early as 1883 in Andvari, that original is also in the public domain in the U.S. due to having been published before 1929 (1909).) | ||||||||||||||||||||

[edit]
This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain".
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted; see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for details. |
