Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556) im 56. Lebensjahr von Gerlach Flicke

Der Erzbischof von Canterbury hält die Episteln des Paulus in der Hand. Auf dem Tisch liegt die Schrift des Augustinus "Glaube und Werk". Cranmer unterstützte die antipäpstliche "Act of Supremacy". Unter Edward VI. führte er das 1. und 2. "Book of Common Prayer" ein. Im Auftrag der Königin Maria I ("Bloody Mary") wurde er verhaftet und als Ketzer verbrannt.
