Re: Image rename using bad name template
[edit]Hello VasuVR. Template {{Bad name}} is used when author re-uploads the same image under a different name and tags the first one with this template to be deleted (similar to {{Duplicate}}). In your case, if you want to rename an image which is not already uploaded under a different name, you might want to use {{Rename}}. After being approved by trusted users, a bot automatically does the job. However, I'd encourage you to use images names with Latin script - Wikimedia Commons is used by all the Wikimedia projects, and many users don't have Tamil fonts installed. This way it'll be easier for non-Tamil speakers to locate them. Let me know if anything is unclear. --Kimsə (talk) 04:47, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- OK. I have noted this. I have created English versions of the musical scales and uploaded them with the transliterated names, like Image:Hemavati scale.svg. The version with Tamil script is the one I like to keep Tamil names. There will be enough links from one to the other in both Commons and Wikipedia and hence people will be able to find them without any issues. Hope this clarifies. - Oh, I see. So, this way both Tamil and non-Tamil speakers could use the scales. As I said above, use {{Rename}} template when needed, and let me know if you need help or have any more questions. Thanks. --Kimsə (talk) 22:46, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Henceforth I hope to make lesser mistakes and even if I make a mistake I will use the {{Rename}} template. With regards to your offer to help, I have a small request. I presume you will have authority to delete the images, as an admin. You could help with deleting the 7 images that are duplicates and marked with {{Bad name}}. One of these has partial Latin script name, while rest have full Latin script name. The Tamil script file names are all fine and can stay. Thank you in advance for this assistance. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear VasuVR,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.
Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
stereo images
[edit]Hello,
you can create an "User category" for your stereo images like I have done:
Category:Files (stereoscopic) by C.Suthorn
Just add template {User categories|VasuVR} to the category to make it a hidden (user) category.
Then you can add
< include only > {you user category} </ include only >
to your template {stereodigital}
and all your stereo images will show up in this user category to make it easier for you to kepp track and for others (like me) to get an overview of your stereo images.
--C.Suthorn (talk) 13:14, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- @C.Suthorn: Thank you very much for the superb tips. Will definitely do these sometime within a week or two. Wonderful indeed!
